2012 Western Sydney Try ‘a Trade – 25th and 26th June
It’s on again! Kevin Betts Stadium at Mt Druitt will see over 1,500 years 9-12 students: design, hammer, paint, tinker, weld, mix mortar, lay bricks, cook, manicure, style, beautify and generally try any trade that may take their interest.
The initiative is continually developing and growing. This year for the first time, the Try ‘a Trade partners are also inviting parents to come along.
Parents can support their children and attend when their child is there with their school or they can also attend on their own.
Try ‘a Trade is an opportunity for young people to start thinking about, confirm or even change their minds as to what they want to do when they leave school. It’s a chance to be hands on and speak to real trade representatives about what trades are really like. This helps students take responsibility for their careers, make informed decisions and set career goals.
Try ‘a Trade has come a long way since its inception in 2008. The early model was a joint project between Blacktown Regional Economic and Employment Development (BREED) and School Industry Partnership Penrith (SIP), which took place at Kingswood High School and attracting less than 500 students.
Today, the venture follows the Partnership model across the three partnership regions of School Industry Partnership Penrith, AusSip Parramatta and BREED Blacktown, and brings together nine different businesses and organistions.
The partners include:
• TAFE NSW - WSI
• Nepean Careers Forum
• Bunnings Group Limited-Minchinbury Warehouse
• TAFE NSW Worldskills
• Defence Force Recruiting - Specialist Recruiting Team - Technical Trades and Apprenticeships
• apprenticepower
• PVS Workfind-St Marys & Windsor
• Blacktown City Council
• Mitchell High School Hospitality School
Try ‘A Trade welcomes PVS Workfind and Blacktown City Council to the 2012 partnership.
